Are you ready for a look behind the scenes?!

Sometimes you see a perfect moment but the surroundings don’t quite match up. In this photo below we had an 18 month old and his brand new baby brother. He was so excited to kiss his baby brother that he ran over before we were set up for it. The connection between the brothers was perfect but the background was WAY distracting. So, I pulled a little Photoshop magic to save that special capture for mom and dad.

I absolutely love this photo. I will definitely be adding it to the website gallery. It melts my heart. <3

A better look at the final shot.

And now, a few photos of recent adorableness! I think over the years I have developed a specific style to my newborn work. My goal is to keep it simple and about the baby. I want to show the connection I have with the baby through my photos. While I love a baby with a flower in her hair or a sweetie pie in a basket, I want the focus to be on your child. Not the prop. I hope that after all these years of trial and error, I have succeeded in accomplishing that.

One of the things I wish I had more of were photographs of my grandmother and grandfather. I LOVE when I am asked to photograph generational photos for a family. It is such a humbling honor to be allowed to experience the closeness of these families. I encourage anyone and everyone to invite Gram and Gramps to their sessions. After all, family is what its all about right?

Newborns have become my specialty. I adore them.
Its funny because they were something I steered clear of photographing for many years. They frightened me. Even though I was a mother of 3, the idea of holding another mothers fragile piece of life in my hands would cause me to break out into a cold sweat. I was going to specialize sports photography. Particularly football. I loved (and still do) the rush of capturing a receiver in full extension, a foot off the ground catching that touchdown pass. It gives me chills just to think about it!
Newborn babies dont do that. What would I do if they cried? How would I cope with the peeing and pooping during the naked shots? What if they just didn’t like me!
That’s when something magical happened. The moment that I coaxed my first newborn into position it felt right. This is what I was supposed to be capturing. Fresh and new life. I was home. I am also by nature and extremely patient person. This is also a key to newborn photography (winky-face to those moms who have been up all night with a reflux and colicky baby screaming their heads off).
So in short, I love what I do.

I am so behind on the blog! My goal is to share more before the end of the year. I have been blessed with so many beautiful newborns and families. I will HOPEFULLY be sharing a few times a week to catch up.

“DOG DAYS OF SUMMER SALE”!! It is hot, hot, HOT! We thought it would awesome to have a cool deal thrown your way. Sessions booked from now until August 1, will receive a complimentary 16×20 enlargement of your favorite photo from your session. Sessions do not have to take place within the dates given. Your session only needs to be reserved. This is an awesome time to book your FALL portraits before spaces run out.

I am also including some photos of my family from our Cape Hatteras vacation earlier this summer. I hope you enjoy them! I hadn’t been to Hatteras since I was a kid and it was my 8 year olds very first time seeing the ocean. We had a BLAST!!

I recently came across something that asked “What photos do you wish you had, but never were able to catch?” Sadly, to many. My lack of self confidence when I was pregnant lead to threatening the lives of anyone near me with a camera. I have no photos of me pregnant with my 3 sons. I can not open an album, point to my belly and say to my 12 year old “This is you, in there.”
I have no professional photos of my kids until they were 1. No newborn curls. No scrunched faces. No tiny flaky footed pictures. No photos of holding my 6lb baby on my chest so he can hear my heartbeat and still feel safe.
Anyhow, it made me ask myself, “What is my wish list?” Here it is in no particular order.

1. A nice photo of me and my Mammaw and Papaw. I cant find a single photo of us together before they died.
2. Pregnancy photos of me carrying my 3 babies.
3. True newborn portraits of my 3 babies.
4. Mine and my husbands reaction after the births of our children.
5. More photos of my children cuddling with their great-grandma Lucky before she passed.

Those are my top 5. What’s on your list? If your still able to capture it, DO IT! Don’t hesitate. Dont second guess your self. Capture your life as you live it.

Don’t be shy. Facebook is a great and easy way to receive updates on blog posts and specials that are going on.
Baby George just found out about our Facebook page. Look how excited he is for his mommy to “Like” us!

I have been surrounded by beautiful living dolls. I’m also guilty of not updating the blog like I should. Once you see all the beautiful darlings that I’ve been working with, you will understand why.
